Organizational History

Founded on Grassroots Action & Statutory Growth

Integrated Health and Development Initiative (IHDI) was founded in 2013 by public health practitioners and community youths with its headquarters located in Arua City, West Nile sub-region.

The central aim was empowering local youths and health workers to serve as the frontlines of the national health and development agenda. In 2014, the organization registered as a Community-Based Organization (CBO) with the Arua District Local Government under registration number 503/1549 (renewed in 2017).

Recognizing the expanding scope of its interventions across multiple districts and refugee hosting areas such as Yumbe and Bidi Bidi, IHDI upgraded from a CBO to a registered national Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in 2018 under the new name Integrated Health and Development Initiative. This evolution reflects the deliberate integration of public health protection with economic development across all programs.
